March is Women’s History Month! One of the ways the Pottsville Free Public Library observes this is by hosting the annual Art as Healing exhibit, featuring art created by clients of the Schuylkill Hope Center for Victims of Domestic Violence. SHC describes it this way:
“For those unfamiliar with the program, Art as Healing is a painting class held weekly by a staff member and artist for those residing in our Safe House. Shelter residents experience empowerment on their paths to safety & healing through the creative process. Because of the many artists who have allowed us to keep their artwork through the years, we are able to share our Art as Healing display around the community. This display also features silhouettes of famous figures who inspire us daily in the work we do.
“We encourage you to visit the Pottsville Free Public Library between [March 4] until Monday, [March 13]. A representative from the Hope Center will be there Wednesday, March 8th (International Women’s Day!) to talk with anyone about our services or this wonderful program.
“A very special thank you to all of our supporters within the community, especially Pottsville Library, and to the survivors who have allowed us to share their paintings.”
